How GPA Is Calculated
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated by dividing total quality points by total credit hours.
Quality Points = Grade Points × Credit Hours. For example, a B+ (3.3) in a 4-credit course earns 3.3 × 4 = 13.2 quality points.
Semester GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Credits for that semester.
Cumulative GPA combines all semesters using the same weighted formula across your entire transcript.
Weighted vs. Unweighted GPA
Many high schools use a weighted GPA scale that gives extra grade points for more rigorous courses. This calculator supports both.
Regular courses: standard 4.0 scale (no bonus)
Honors courses: +0.5 added to grade points
AP / IB courses: +1.0 added to grade points
For example, a B (3.0) in an AP course earns 4.0 weighted grade points, while the same B in a regular course stays at 3.0. Weighted GPAs can exceed 4.0.
